Jennifer Brick is a Ph.D. Candidate in Political Science at the University of Wisconsin - Madison currently completing a dissertation on informal institutions,  “state building” efforts,  and public goods provision in rural Afghanistan. Her research interests include political economy, informal and comparative institutions, local governance and decentralization, and issues related to the micro dynamics of development. She has spent seven years working in various parts of Central Asia.  For her dissertation, she conducted extensive field research in 32 villages across six provinces in  Afghanistan. In addition, she has managed democracy assistance for USAID in Uzbekistan and has drafted legislative materials for the new Afghan Parliament as a consultant for the UNDP in Kabul. Jennifer was a research fellow at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, Institute for Legal Studies and was a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Uzbekistan.  She holds a B.S.F.S from Georgetown University as well as a M.A. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from UW - Madison.  She was raised in the City of Pittsburgh.
