This document provides instructions to set up WebDAV in Windows XP and Windows 2000. WebDAV is a method of viewing all of your files on the polisci server so that you may easily edit them using drag and drop.
Please begin by updating your WebFolders client software with this update from Microsoft. This download is NECESSARY for Windows Vista clients, recommended for XP.

- First, navigate to My Network Places. Depending on the setup of your PC:
- If there is no "My Network Places" on the desktop, go to Start and select My Network Places.
- If there is a "My Network Places," double-click on My Network Places.

- Select Add a Network Place from the Network Tasks menu (on the left)
- Some users may see the Add a Network Place icon which must be double-clicked (under the Unspecified heading).
- Windows 2000 users will find an Add a Network Place icon which must be double-clicked, and should skip to step 5.

- The "Add Network Place Wizard" will appear. Click Next.
- Select Choose another network location, and click Next.

- Enter http://files.polisci.wisc.edu/users/username as
the location, and click Next.

- username should be replaced with your PoliSci server username.

- Enter your Username and Password and click OK.
**This is your POLISCI user account, not your NetID***

- Give your new WebDAV folder a meaningful name (the name will help you to easily identify this network place for future access), and click Next.
- To open the new connection, keep the "Open this network place when I click Finish" box checked, and click Finish. You may need to log in again using your polisci username and password.
- Upon successful login, a folder window will open up revealing all of the files in your Users / My Documents folder.
- A folder with the name just given will now appear in your My Network Places directory each time you need to access your files. Double-click it and log in with your Username and Password to access your course files. (Please see notes below)

Notes:
- You may also connect to the PROJECT and PUBLIC server shares by replacing references to USERS above with either PROJECT or PUBLIC
- "My Network Places" must be enabled to use WebDAV. Contact support if your "My Network Places" has been disabled.
- Windows 2000 only: You must have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 browser or later installed, and the computer may need to install additional software during the setup process for WebDAV to function. All screenshots in this document represent Windows XP.

**You MUST download the update from MS at the top of this page for web folders to work with Vista.**
1. Open the COMPUTER window (start button or desktop) and right click on a blank area in that window and select "Add a Network Location"
2. Refer to Step 3 above, the rest of the process is very similar to the XP directions, except that the saved shortcut for the
web folder will appear in the "Computer" window instead of the "Network Places" window.
