The Lloyd D. Gladfelter Award

Purpose

Established through a generous gift from the Milwaukee Foundation Corporation to the University of Wisconsin Foundation, the Gladfelter Award is given annually by the Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The award honors the public employee or employees (excluding elected officials) whose innovations led significantly to the improvement of federal, state, county, or municipal public services in the State of Wisconsin. Gladfelter Award winners receive a cash prize and an award certificate and are honored at an awards ceremony.

Selection Process

Nominations require a description of 500 words or less in which the individual making the nomination describes the innovation, including its rationale, the expected benefit and impact, and estimated costs or savings that might be associated with it. Self-nominations are also welcome.

The nomination period for the 2008 Gladfelter Award is now closed.

Selection Criteria

A committee consisting of faculty and alumni of the Department of Political Science will select the winner(s). The committee looks for innovative approaches to the provision of federal, state, county, or municipal public services in the state of Wisconsin. Proposals will be judged according to their creativity, feasibility, and potential impact. This year's committee members are Dennis Dresang (chair), Jim Haney, Bill McCoshen and Joel Skornicka.
